Google’s Gemini Live rolling out for free to Android users in Canada

Gemini Live was previously limited to AI subscribers

Google’s Gemini Live voice chat is rolling out to all Android users for free after briefly being limited to the company’s AI subscription.

A tweet from the company’s Gemini Twitter/X account confirmed the rollout, which is available “free of charge.” However, Gemini Live is limited to English so far. Google Canada confirmed to MobileSyrup that this rollout includes Canada, though warned it will take a few weeks to reach all English users.

Gemini Live hasn’t appeared yet on any of my Pixel devices, including the new Pixel 9, but it’s nice to know it’s on the way (and for free too!). Gemini Live, for those unfamiliar, is a voice chat mode for Gemini that allows users to have a conversation with Google’s AI and event interrupt it mid-sentence.

To access the feature, open the Gemini app or launch Gemini via a shortcut (like pressing and holding the power button on Pixel phones), then look for a waveform icon in the bottom right corner. This launches the Gemini Live so you can start your conversation. The interface has a ‘hold’ button and an ‘End’ button.

Unfortunately, free Gemini Live is only on Android for now, though Google plans to add support for it on iOS soon. The search giant also plans to expand Live to more languages in the future.
