Niantic launches Pokémon Go photo contest

Pokemon Go

Trainers with the Pokémon Go app have the opportunity to enter the Pokémon Go AR Photo Contest.

The challenge is to snap photos of Pokémon in the wild, while using one’s smartphone camera to get an augmented reality (AR) effect.

The event started on October 11th, however, those interested still have until October 25th to participate. All a user needs to do is snap a photo and share it to Instagram using the hashtag #PokemonGOcontest. The winners, the top ten submissions in this case, will receive a Pokémon Go prize pack, which includes Pokémon Go Plus, — the Pokémon Go accessory which helps find Pokémon — a poster autographed by the Pokémon Go team and wireless Bluetooth earbuds.

Niantic, the game’s developer, will notify the winners via a direct message on Instagram. Winning entries will be chosen based on three criteria — creativity, originality and “visual fun.” There are a few restrictions, as well. Mainly photos cannot feature an identifiable individual.

The contest is available globally, except for specific regions, including the province of Quebec.

We’ve reached out to Niantic for clarification as to why individuals in Quebec cannot enter the competition.
