Google just announced the winners of its second annual Material Design Awards.
While no Canadian-made apps made the cut, most Android users will be familiar with at least a couple of the finalists, including Airbnb. The home rental platform was recognized for the “Focused Efficiency” of its app. Each app highlights a best practice espoused by Google in its Material Design guidelines.
“Essential tasks are satisfied through precise design, routing users clearly and briskly from sign in, to browsing, to booking a reservation. By neatly segmenting larger goals into smaller steps, Airbnb is able to sidestep the appearance of complexity, making the overall experience feel comfortable,” said Google’s Rich Fulcher of the company’s attractive Android app.
Other finalists include Kitchen Stories, Asana, Fabulous – Motivate Me! and C Channel. With the exception of C Channel, which is localized for Japanese and Thai users, Canadians can download each of the apps to see what the software design crew at Google considers a well-designed and executed app experience.
The five winners will be honoured at the SPAN LA on October 27th. Visit the webpage Google has put up for the 2016 Material Design Awards to see why Google picked each app.
