Amazon Prime Day was July 15th, and while many Canadians were disappointed by the deals, Amazon is reveling in its success. The massive online retailer announced today that sales broke global sales records, noting “worldwide order growth increased 266% over the same day last year and 18% more than Black Friday 2014.”
Apart from electronics, Amazon discounted clothes, baby products, DVD box sets and books. In total, it sold over 34.4 million items across Prime-eligible countries (Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France and Austria), which tallied 398 items ordered per second. Amazon failed to give specific numbers, but said “customers ordered hundreds of thousands of Amazon devices – making it the largest device sales day ever worldwide,” possibly the Kindle or even a fire sale of its Fire phone.
