It appears that Samsung has not forgotten about the 2012 line of devices, namely the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S3. Both devices are set to receive updates to Android 4.4 KitKat at some point, but the former appears to be ahead in line.
Samsung is rolling out a KitKat update to the N7100 model in Europe which, unlike the Galaxy S3, uses the same hardware across the world. The Galaxy Note II was the only Note device that launched with Exynos processors across its entire product line, as LTE was added with a separate baseband chip.
The update reportedly maintains the “old style” TouchWIZ design, which is far less attractive than what we find on then Galaxy S5, but introduces some standard KitKat features like a camera shortcut on the lock screen, white navigation buttons, Immersive Mode and KNOX security.
No word on when the update is coming to Canada, but we’d bet it will be here in the next couple of months.
