BlackBerry has followed through on their commitment in a timely manner. For the many Android devices that still run Gingerbread you can now be part of a larger group and download BBM. Currently, according to Google’s latest stats, there is still about 20% still running OS version 2.3, so this could very well dramatically increase the number of downloads.
When BlackBerry announced that they would be bringing a ‘special release of BBM for Android smartphones running Gingerbread’ they didn’t notify what made it so unique. A previous leaked version omitted BBM Channels. Unfortunately there is no change log listed. If you have a Gingerbread device please let us know in the comments.
