After a brief delay, PC Mobile has officially launched their “entry into the post-paid wireless market with simple and better voice and data monthly packages designed as an alternative to the national carriers.” As reported last week, PC Mobile’s offer to Canadians is to prevent the dreaded “bill shock” and give potential customers desired handsets, low-cost plans and “no activation fees or cancellation charges.” The CRTC will love that statement.
PC Mobile is available at “The Mobile Shop” within select Loblaw locations. Their postpaid model is built on 3 tiers of monthly rate plans – $35, $50 and $60/month. Compared to the plans we posted last week, PC has come out with a promo that includes additional voice minutes and data. Here’s the fine details of their “time-limited introductory rate plans”.
$35/month:
– 400 Nationwide anytime minutes
– Unlimited Nationwide family calling
– Unlimited Nationwide evening and weekends (6PM)
– Unlimited International text, picture and video messaging
– 200MB data
– Call display, Voice mail, call forwarding, call conferencing
– $2/month add-on for 5PM evenings
$50/month:

$65/month:

– Unlimited Nationwide evening and weekends (6PM)
– Unlimited International text, picture and video messaging
– 2GB data

You can always opt for the no-term and pay for a device outright, but the postpaid offering has an 18 or 30 contact periods. The 18-month seems to be for the entry level devices, while the 30 month term is reserved for the higher-end smartphones. Below is the complete list available devices and their respected prices (Samsung Galaxy S4, BlackBerry Q10, LG Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy SII X, Samsung Galaxy Ace IIx, Nokia Lumia 520).
In addition, anyone who signs up on an 18 or 30 month new contract will also score a $100 President’s Choice gift card. Certainly something to consider, especially if you often frequent Loblaws grocery stores. Distribution and convenience once again reign supreme.
