During BlackBerry World 2012 RIM made some serious advancements to built up a high level of hype for their upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS. A week following they announced two executive hires – Kristian Tear as Chief Operating Officer and Frank Boulben as Chief Marketing Officer. Unfortunately today brings a slight setback for our beloved RIM as their head of Global Sales has decided to depart the company.
Patrick Spence was with RIM for the past 14-year and on his Twitter page says that he’s a “BlackBerry Believer.” However, RIM has confirmed the departure and the responsibilities will be shifting to Kristian Tear.
“I can confirm that Patrick Spence, Head of Global Sales for Research In Motion, has resigned following 14 years of service. Patrick will be taking on a leadership position in a different industry. The sales function will report directly into Kristian Tear, our newly appointed COO when he starts this summer. In the interim, the sales function will report to CEO Thorsten Heins.”
The timing is clearly not the best, but could also be what RIM needs to bolster sales for the new BlackBerry 10 OS and their upcoming devices. Fresh blood is always good.
