Yes, the next-gen iPhone rumours are back on. You can give thanks to Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White for the following words. He’s the analyst that has also pegged the Apple stock to hit $1,001 within the year. After his recent trip to China and Taiwan he’s come up with similar iPhone rumours that surfaced last year. Sleeker design, thinner, bigger display:
“In our view, this will be the most significant iPhone upgrade with a four-inch screen and a new, sleek look that we believe will require a Unibody case. This new, sleek look will be the most important reason that consumers decide to upgrade to the iPhone 5, while we believe the addition of 4G will also attract buyers of the new device.”
White stated in his note to clients that he expects component production to begin in June, then a launch in the August-September timeframe (previous rumours were an October launch). According to White, the iPhone 5 “could be extraordinary, dwarfing previous launches and driving the stock closer to our $1,001 price target.”
Next, Amazon. This rumour have popped up once again. Not even sure that us Canadians would see a Amazon-branded smartphone here, but still something of interest. Amazon was previously considering buying Waterloo-based RIM, but talks broke down. So there’s certainly a possibility of the company launching a smartphone. In November, Citigroup said that Amazon would be launching a smartphone with Texas Instrument’s OMAP 4 processor sometime in Q4, now White is also echoing this information. He stated that “Our research suggests Amazon is currently working on a smartphone that we believe is planned to launch this year and could prove to be more sophisticated than many smartphones on the market.”
So there you have it… 2 fresh rumours to chew on. Both devices, if released, will be available sometime Q4.
