The latest Gartner report showed Google’s Android OS having 43.4% OS market share in Q2 2011. Apple followed in second place by owning 18.2% of the market. Trickling down near the bottom of the list was Microsoft with only 1.6% of the market. The Windows Phone 7 Marketplace is almost at the 30,000 app mark, way behind Apple and Android. Now that HP declared that they’ll “discontinue operations for webOS devices”, Microsoft seems to be taking advantage of the opportunity and reaching out to the webOS development community. On Twitter, Microsoft’s Senior Director of Windows Phone 7 development, Brandon Watson stated that “To Any Published WebOS Devs: We’ll give you what you need to be successful on #WindowsPhone, incl.free phones, dev tools, and training, etc.”
