Jim Balsillie, the one-time co-CEO of Research In Motion, has surfaced to spearhead a non-profit called the Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC). This is a government-granted foundation, backed by millions of dollars, that focusses on “the development and demonstration of clean technologies,” specifically to help Canadian companies provide solutions in climate change, clean air, water quality and soil.
Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver stated that Balsillie is a “Canadian visionary” and has signed on a 5-year term. The SDTC has been around since 2001 and Balsillie noted that “I look forward to continuing the great work that is being achieved through this organization and offering my experience in commercializing new technologies and growing them globally.”
Clearly not about the money, the SDTC role reportedly pays $12,000/year.
