The rumour mill has started in regards to the next Galaxy S device, and despite Samsung’s categorical denial of its existence and its March 2013 debut time, there is indeed an unnamed Samsung device floating out there in the wild with next-gen specs.
On Rightware’s site, a database of benchmarks by smartphones, there is a device called the Samsung TE4 that is powered by a Cortex-A15 processor and a next-gen Mali -T604 GPU. We’ve spoken many times about this incredibly powerful graphics processor which will likely be inside the Exynos 5 SoC coming to the Galaxy S IV (or its equivalent). It’s also possible that this TE4 device is a tablet with its 1280×752 resolution, a number obtained by including on-screen buttons on an Android device. This could also be a phone prototype that is using the default on-screen Android navigation buttons, but either way we know Samsung is testing very powerful next-generation hardware.
Samsung has consistently said it would be the first vendor to move beyond Cortex-A9 and bring Cortex-A15 to market in a timely fashion. While we thought they were co-opted by Apple’s A6 chip, turns out they are still in the game.
Game on!
