The Google app’s legacy voice search is finally getting a UI update, as the tech giant shifts towards a design style akin to Search Live.
Originally, the search query featured the familiar four-dot look, a staple of Google’s branding. Now, it will look like the new Gemini Live UI branding, with some changes to the animations and overall responsiveness.
As noted by both Android Central and 9to5Google, the ‘G’ logo is much more centred than before, and a prompt at the top that reads “What’s on your mind?” eventually disappears to reveal the transcript of what the user said. The waveform from the four dots has now been replaced by an arc (similar to the Live Search arc) that pulsates with the user’s speech. The search-a-song option remains at the bottom, this time in an updated bubble below the arc. When the button is clicked, the prompt updates to read “Play Sing Hum.”
Interestingly, Google has also refreshed the ping that plays whenever the microphone button is clicked, moving from the traditional ping it used in the past to the more airy hum AI mode currently uses.
The newly redesigned Google app interface is gradually rolling out to both Android and iOS users, according to 9to5Google. That said, this UI tweak comes as many of Google’s devices and software elements are shifting towards the Material 3 look revealed back in May.
