If you’re like me and move between Android and iOS often, these new item trackers from Pebblebee are pretty enticing. The company has a slate of new products that can work with Apple and Google’s device tracking networks.
There are three devices in the Universal series — a small Bluetooth tracker, a card-sized tracker for wallets and a larger keychain tracker. While the trackers work with both device networks you can only be part of one at a time.
The new trackers have a 8-18 month battery life depending on which model you get, but can be recharged which will save you from dealing with finicky watch batteries. This is a nice upgrade, and recently my AirTag battery died so I got a new one from the dollar store (big waste of $2.50) and it only lasted about a month and a half on that cell.
The trackers also have buzzers and lights and the bluetooth range on them is around 90-150 metres so you should be able to find your keys or wallet with Bluetooth tracking if its lost in your house pretty easily. If you’re out in the world you can use either the iOS or Android finding networks to keep track of your items. These trackers don’t have the precision of the ultra-wideband Apple uses in its AirTags, but I’ve found that Bluetooth tracking and sound queues can work just as good if you often misplace your keys inside your own home.
All the trackers start at $49 and you can buy them singular or in packs of multiples. That said, it would be really nice if the company sold a bundle with all three devices in one, since many people could use the tracker for their bag, the keychain for their keys and the card for their wallets.
