While the new iPhone 16 series is still pretty new, we’re already learning about Apple’s next set of iPhones, which reportedly will finally bring 120Hz to the non-Pro models.
Display Supply Chain Consultants’ Ross Young told MacRumors that the standard iPhone 17 models will have a higher refresh rate, as well as a new branding.
According to the rumour, the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air (a new slimmer model) will have ProMotion, meaning the display will finally be able to offer a 120Hz refresh rate. ProMotion allows for iPhones to drop down as low as 1Hz (except for the iPhone 13 Pro, which only drops to 10Hz) and ramp up to 120Hz to help save battery power. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if the non-Pro iPhone 17 models will get the 1Hz or 10Hz version.
All standard iPhones (including the recently announced iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus) still only have 60Hz displays.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.
