Sony quietly buried a DualSense price increase under the expensive PS5 Pro reveal

The company started charging more for the controller mere hours before it revealed its whopping $959.99 PS5 Pro

Sony has quietly raised the price of its PlayStation 5 DualSense controller worldwide, including in Canada.

As spotted by IGN, retailers are now charging $5 more for the gamepad in most markets, and that also applies to Canada. This means that the new Canadian price for the standard DualSense is $94.99, up from the previous $89.99. You can see the change reflected on the websites of retailers like Best Buy Canada and GameStop Canada.

It should also be noted that some DualSense colour variants, like the Sterling Silver controller that launched earlier this year, were already priced at $94.99 and are therefore now $99.99.

Notably, this makes the DualSense the most expensive standard controller on the market (not counting the $99.99 pack of two Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons). It’s even more than Nintendo’s $89.99 Pro Controller for the Switch.

Of course, the DualSense does have some unique functionality not featured in other controllers (namely, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers), but nearly $100 before taxes for a standard gamepad is still quite pricey. (For what it’s worth, PlayStation’s high-end, modular DualSense Edge controller costs $269.99 in Canada.)

An official reason for the standard DualSense’s price increase hasn’t been provided by Sony. MobileSyrup has reached out to PlayStation Canada to confirm that the official new Canadian Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is indeed $94.99 and will update this story once a response has been received.

The timing of the DualSense price hike is certainly interesting, as it came mere hours before Sony officially unveiled the PS5 Pro on September 10th after many months of rumours. The upgraded console has been trending on X (Twitter) after it was confirmed that it will cost a whopping $959.99 in Canada when it launches on November 7th.
