Local studios like Ubisoft (Assassin's Creed), Larian (Baldur's Gate 3) and Sabotage (Sea of Stars) have also partnered with the event

The massive Quebec City Game Jam returns for its third year from October 4th to 6th.

For those unfamiliar with game jams, the idea is that up-and-coming developers come together to try to make a working game in a short period of time. In the Quebec City Game Jam, about sixty participants will form teams for four to produce a game in just 48 hours at the La Console – Interface humaine on rue Saint-Joseph.

Overall, it’s a great way for both aspiring game makers and those looking to learn more about the art of game development. If you’re interested in taking part, you have until September 13th to register through the official website with a $20 fee.

Here’s a video from last year to give you an idea on how it all worked:

To help bring this year’s event to life, the Quebec City Game Jam has partnered with some big-name studios in the area, including Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed), Larian (the Belgian developer of the massively popular Baldur’s Gate 3 has a studio in Quebec City), Sabotage (Sea of Stars), Xbox-owned Beenox (Call of Duty) and Berzerk (Infernax).

Per a study La Guilde du jeu vidéo du Quebec released last year, the local gaming scene contributes a massive $1.4 billion to the province’s economy every year. In fact, Quebec as a whole is home to over 280 studios, making it one of the top five game development hubs in the world. Therefore, the game jam is intended to help celebrate and promote the province’s booming gaming sector.

And outside of the game jam itself, the organizers are also inviting media, industry professionals and other interested parties to the ‘Joue et jase’ event on October 16th, also at La Console – Interface humaine. That evening, game jam participants will present their work in person ahead of a launch on the web-based itch.io platform.
