Nova Scotia partners with Google Cloud on AI-powered healthcare solutions

The government is investing $42 million into the project over the next five years

Nova Scotia Health has partnered with Google Cloud on new AI-powered digital healthcare solutions.

Through the partnership, the provincial government will spend $42 million over five years to leverage Google Cloud in three key ways.

The first involves using AI to provide advanced search capabilities across such healthcare systems as the YourHealthNS app and Nova Scotia Health websites. Google says this will “give people faster, easier access to healthcare information, resources and services.”

Next up is a natural-language search that will help professionals better locate information in a patient’s healthcare record. The goal is to provide more accurate search results so healthcare professionals can be more efficient with their time.

Finally, Google says AI will empower provincial radiologists using chest X-rays by providing preliminary imaging findings. Google will also provide Nova Scotia Health professionals with in-person and on-demand training through its Google Cloud Learning Services.

The government expects the three solutions to be fully integrated by the end of 2025. Both Google and Nova Scotia Health say the data that is leveraged through these AI models will be “protected at all costs” to ensure individuals’ privacy.
