When I started playing around with Beats Studio Pros late last week, I was really digging them until I learned that, unlike the Beats Fit Pros, they didn’t tap into some Apple-exclusive headphone features like the ability to share audio with another listener. Luckily, that’s all changing today.
To get the feature you need to update your headphones. To do this, you need to keep them connected to your device and within Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and place them on the charger. The update should happen automatically. On Android, you can update via the Beats app. The latest version is 2C301.
You need to have the headphones connected to an Apple device to use the new feature. On iPhone and iPad, open the control centre and tap on the AirPlay icon. There should be a button that now says ‘Share Audio. ‘ Tap on that. Then, hold your headphones near the iPhone in pairing mode (with AirPods, that means in the case with the lid open and just nearby for AirPods Max).
You can also do this on the Apple TV 4K, but unfortunately, you need to use a third-party app on Mac.
This means that all AirPods, Beats Fit Pro, Beats Flex, Beats Solo3 Wireless, Beats Solo Buds, Beats Studio3 Wireless, BeatsX, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, Powerbeats3 Wireless, Beats Solo Pro and Beats Studio Pros now all support the feature.
This means that the Studio Pros are the first Beats without an Apple H1 or W1 chip to use this feature, but they are still missing the seamless device switching on Apple that AirPods and some other Beats devices with Apple chips have. When the headphones came out in 2023, it was suggested to Engadget that the feature could come at some point, but a year later, the multiple Apple device feature is the biggest update so far.
