Vidéotron launches VoLTE service for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus [Update]

Quebec-based regional carrier Vidéotron has gone live with its VoLTE service, almost three weeks after Telus expanded its voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) network to cover the province in its entirety.

The Quebec-regional carrier has put up a VoLTE FAQ page that expands on the details of the service.

Those interested in the service need a VoLTE-compatible device and SIM, as well as the feature activated on their account.

Vidéotron has confirmed to MobileSyrup that, for now, only iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices are compatible with its VoLTE service, whether unlocked or purchased through the carrier.

The carrier promises that many other compatible devices will be added to the list in the next few weeks.

To activate the free feature on an iOS device, users must head to Settings > Cellular > Options > Voice and Data > LTE.

VoLTE is a technology that allows users to make voice calls over a carrier’s LTE network rather than its HSPA network. Benefits include being able to use LTE data while making a phone call, as well as increased availability of HD voice service and faster call set-ups.

Update 31/10/17: Vidéotron has confirmed to MobileSyrup that only the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are currently available on VoLTE.
