Sony has unveiled Guacamelee! 2 for the PlayStation 4, a sequel to the 2013 hit action platformer. Both Guacamelee! games are developed by Drinkbox Studios, an award-winning Toronto-based independent games studio.
A specific release date wasn’t confirmed, although the game’s announcement trailer says the game is coming “soon-ish.”
Sony and Drinkbox also released an official description for Guacamelee! 2:
“Seven years after defeating Carlos Calaca, Juan Aguacate is forced to don his luchador mask again to face a new threat — this time to the very fabric of space and time. Punch your way through a whole new Metroid-vania style world and try to save the Mexiverse!”
The announcement comes from the ongoing Paris Games Week, an event in which Sony promises to show off many new PS4 and PlayStation VR games.
The first Guacamelee! originally released on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita and was later brought over to PC, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U.
Last year, Drinkbox also released Severed on the PS Vita, an action-adventure game that went on to win numerous awards, including an Apple Design Award at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
Severed has since come to iOS, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch.
