In a surprise announcement during Nintendo’s E3 2017 livestream, the Pokemon Company’s CEO and President Tsunekazu Ishihara announced that a core-series Pokemon game is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch.
Ishihara specified that the new game might not be out for at least a year, but that it’s definitely in the works.
Fans have been clamouring for a main series Pokemon game on a home console for years, and the Nintendo Switch — a hybrid that combines portability with home console-quality processing power — seems like the perfect fit.
This new main series game will not be the first Pokemon game for the Switch console. Instead, that honour will go to Pokken Tournament DX — a fighting game in the same vein as Tekken.
