Although not true for North America or Europe yet, Android is now the world’s most popular operating system when it comes to internet usage.
Android devices have taken over, even beating out Windows, according to data stemming from analytics firm Statscounter.
It was a very low margin beating Windows by only 0.2 percent, in the combined usage of smartphones, laptops, desktops and tablets, in relation to internet usage. Specifically, the stats indicate Android is leading with 37.93 percent, 37.91 percent for Windows and trailing far behind are Apple’s iOS and OS X.
Overall, Android has experienced a 37.5 percent gain over the last five years. This is also the end of an era for Microsoft, as the company has offering the leading operating system in the market since the 1980s.
Although the combined score shows Android as the winner, for laptops and desktops Microsoft is expectedly way ahead of Android by 84 percent. The smartphone market in Asia also had a huge impact on the results, where Android has shown significant gains over the past few years.
The North America market Windows is still leading Android with 39.5 percent against Android’s 25.7 percent. While in Europe, the stats indicate Windows is sitting at 51.7 percent, while Android trails behind with 29.1 percent.
