Samsung is one of the worldwide sponsors of the upcoming Olympic games in Rio. Naturally, the company unveiled a new Olympic-inspired device to commemorate the glory of sport and competition with the “Olympic Edition” of the Galaxy S7 edge.
We first saw this leak two weeks ago and now that it’s official, Samsung states this limited edition GS7 edge will only see a production run of 12,500 units. The Olympic Games Edition of the Galaxy S7 edge will be given to all 2016 Olympians “to enhance their experiences in Rio.” In addition, those participating in the Games will also score a Gear IconX earbuds.
This Galaxy S7 edge features the Olympic Rings embedded into the back of the phone, and also appearing on the home and lock screens, message, dial and contact screens and notification bar. Coming pre-loaded on the device are Rio 2016 Olympic Games themed wallpapers.
As for general availability, Canadians are out of luck. Samsung will be selling a limited number of the Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games edition starting July 18th in Brazil, the United States, China, Germany, and Korea. If you’re interested in scoring one of these it’s probably best to keep an eye on eBay. There’s still no indication of the phone’s price.
