It looks like Google is testing out a selection of new mobile search features that might make their way to all Android devices at some point in the future.
Various users have posted on Reddit that when the standard mobile Google search box is initially opened, instead of displaying a list of the user’s five most recent search queries, the app now gives more information about recent searches, suggesting nearby locations, as well as trending search terms.
Clicking one of these options brings up a list of short terms related to the above categories. For example, if you search “restaurants” you’ll now receive suggestions related to similar locations nearby.
As with all A/B tests conducted by Google, there’s no guarantee this feature will be rolled out to all Android users.
