Google is testing out a new set of online and Google Now weather cards, according to reports from a variety of Reddit and Google+ users.
Besides their obviously more colourful design, the new cards show a lot more information. For instance, in contrast to the currently available cards, which show the upcoming weather for the next 24 hours, the new cards do so for the current day, upcoming day, as well as for the next 10 days. Moreover, it looks like the new cards expand to show even more information — things like air quality and the time the time the sun will rise and set. In a lot of ways, the new cards appear to mimic a weather app someone might download from the Play Store.
Also included in the redesign is a new frog mascot. Depending on the current daily weather condition, the frog is shown doing a different outdoor activity. So on a sunny day he’ll be out catching some rays on the beach.
With a limited number of Reddit users reporting seeing the new cards in action, it’s likely this is part of an A/B test Google is conducting. As such, there’s no guarantee we’ll see these new cards implemented on scale, which is shame because that frog is adorable.
