Alcatel OneTouch isn’t just bringing its latest smartphone to Canada on June 30th, but is simultaneously announcing a partnership with Toronto FC.
As of today, the up and coming smartphone manufacturer will be the official smartphone partner of the Toronto FC, the struggling-but-improving MLS team in Canada’s largest city. In addition to providing all of the team members Idol 3 smartphones, the brand will adorn the FC’s home stadium, BMO Field, with banners, “pre-game fan experiences,” and lots of various promotions.
Of the announcement, AOT’s senior vice president of North America said, “We’re excited to announce this new strategic partnership with Toronto FC, delivering on our commitment to build engagement around our brand as we continue to rise as one of the top smartphone manufacturers in the region. The two brands align well as we’re both cut from a common thread, with the focus to deliver a great experience for our fans. As the official smartphone partner, we have a unique opportunity to reach new audiences and deliver on our brand promise to bring value and enable memorable experiences to Toronto FC fans.”
This isn’t Alcatel OneTouch’s first foray into North American brand sponsorships. Earlier this year, it became the lead sponsor for The Color Run, an easy-going, colour-filled race in 19 Canadian cities and dozens more in the U.S. As part of the Toronto FC sponsorship, AOT will be donating $10,000 to Dwayne De Rosario’s DeRo Foundation.
At 6-5-1, the Toronto FC is still in playoff contention, but is 9 points behind division leader, D.C. United. Let’s hope this partnership helps the squad’s game, too.
