Earlier this week, a bug found within the iPhone Messages app that caused it to crash and in some cases reboot the phone when a string of text was sent to either an iPhone or Apple Watch. Apple was quick to respond to the bug, stating in its support forum that it was aware of the problem and a fix was forthcoming.
In the meantime, Apple has published a workaround. The company suggests to:
- Ask Siri to “read unread messages.”
- Then use Siri to reply to the malicious message. After replying to the message, you’ll be able to open Messages again.
- In Messages, swipe left to delete the entire thread, or tap and hold the malicious message, then tap “More,” and then delete the message from the thread.
