Several Canadian financial institutions have made it easier for customers to bank by their mobile device. Not only do we have the ability to transfer funds, check account balances and find ATMs, but more recently banks and credit unions have rolled out the option of depositing cheques right from their smartphone or tablet.
Various Credit Unions, CIBC, Tangerine (formerly known as ING Direct), and TD Bank have gone live with Mobile Cheque Deposit feature on Android and iOS. RBC, Canada’s largest bank in terms of customers, has finally followed.
It seems the cheque deposit feature is only currently available on Android devices as the app was just updated in Google Play. Similar to other banks, RBC customers simply need to open the app and take a picture of the front and back of the cheque for direct deposit.
There is no indication of when the RBC for iOS, BlackBerry or Windows Phone will be updated with the cheque deposit feature.
