Canadian Bing users searched for iPhone more often than Galaxy and, unsurprisingly, Xbox more than PlayStation, in 2014.
The Microsoft-owned search and data division posted its Top Searches of 2014 this week, showcasing what terms, people and stories Canadians were interested in.
The most popular tech search was ‘Facebook’, followed by ‘YouTube’, ‘Netflix’ and ‘Instagram,’ while the most popular electronics searches were ‘iPhone’, ‘Xbox’, ‘BlackBerry’ and ‘Fitbit’, followed by ‘Samsung Galaxy’, ‘iPad’, ‘Nintendo’ and ‘PlayStation’. Microsoft’s own Windows Phone brand came in at 10th in the most popular electronics searches in Canada. The term ‘Android’ didn’t even crack the top ten on either side.
Apple’s iPhone 6 also topped Bing’s U.S. searches, with Windows Phone placing seventh and ‘Samsung Galaxy S4’ following in eighth place.
While you’d expect Microsoft products to feature more often in Bing searches, Apple seems to dominate searches for electronics in general, coming ahead on Yahoo as well. We’ll find out Google’s top searches of the year on December 16th.
