Twitter makes it easier to block users and report abusive Tweets

Twitter has close to 285 million active users sending 500 million tweets every day. With so many people sending such a vast amount of content, there’s bound to be a few bad eggs. Today, Twitter is introducing new changes designed to help fight harassment within the Twitterverse. This includes improvements to blocking as well as improvements to the process for reporting abusive tweets.

On the user end, Twitter now requires less information from users flagging abusive or inappropriate tweets, which makes it easier for users to report a tweet. It’s also making some improvements behind the scenes so that these flagged tweets are addressed more quickly.

All you have to do to report a tweet from your phone is click the option button (three dots) on the tweet and then click ‘block or report.’ You’ll be presented with the ability to block a user (via an on/off slider) as well as the option to file a report. Reasons for reporting a tweet include spam or a compromised account. You can even report a tweet just for being annoying (a feature that will probably be abused itself).

Twitter has also introduced a new page where you can see all the accounts you’ve blocked. From here you can unblock, report, and mute users. More controls and features will be added to this dash over time.

If you don’t see the update yet, sit tight. Twitter says a service-wide roll out will happen over the coming weeks.
