Google last week announced a new subscription service dubbed YouTube Music Key. The company on Friday revealed that the service would be made available free of charge for Google Play Music subscribers starting this week. Unfortunately, it seems Canadians will be left out in the cold this time around. The Associated Press has confirmed that the beta, while international, won’t be available this side of the border.
According to the Associated Press (via CBC), YouTube Music Key will initially be available for those in the U.S., United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland and Finland. Residents of those countries will have to apply for an invitation (unless they’re a Google Play Music All Access customer) and invitations will be sent out in batches starting this week.
We had a sneaking suspicion this was the case when Google started sending invitations to All Access users in the U.S. last week. The search giant has yet to elaborate on its Canadian launch plans but we’re hoping Canadians won’t have to wait for the full launch and will be allowed to join the beta sooner rather than later.
YouTube Music Key offers access to ad-free music, background playback from the YouTube application, and offline music playback.
