Microsoft announced Wednesday, through a support forum moderator, that the company will pull an errant Surface Pro 2 firmware update released on December 10th.
Initial reports stated that many Surface Pro 2 tablets were failing to install the update, but as GigaOM’s Kevin Tofel has pointed out, people with these tablets were in fact the lucky ones. Unsuspecting users that installed the update without issue have since run across rampant hardware failures, including the inability to charge the tablet or properly pair it with a Type Cover.
Microsoft has stated that it will release an update to fix the issue after the holidays, but word to the wise: set your Surface Pro 2 to manual updates and wait a few days until the Internet confirms the update to the update doesn’t further brick your tablet.
