Apple has started Monday morning off on the right foot. Pre-orders for their iPhone 5 started on Friday, September 19th at 12:01 PST (3:01 EST) and within a 24-hour period they claimed to have sold over 2 million, which doubled the iPhone 4S sales milestone on opening pre-order day. Apple also noted that the “Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.”
According to the press release, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, said “iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal. iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
It would be nice for them to give a country breakdown, but there was no specific stats given. Canadians can pre-order at Rogers, Bell, TELUS, Virgin, Fido and Koodo Mobile. Over the weekend it was revealed that Bell and Virgin sold out of their iPhone 5 stock, plus TELUS pushed back shipping dates to new pre-orders to the 28th of September. The iPhone 5 is officially available September 21st.
