A recent survey, commissioned by Best Buy Mobile, shows that students text more than talk. This is not too surprising as the CWTA just announced that there was over 18 billion text messages sent in Q2 2011. The results are based on feedback between August 2-4 of “601 randomly selected college and university students from Vancouver, Calvary, Toronto and Montreal”.
Here are some of the key findings:
– 60% cell phone users own smartphones
– Montreal has the lowest smartphone usage at 50%, while Toronto is the highest with 65%
– 54% of students use their phone primarily for texting
– 31% use their phones for talking, Males use their phone more for talking than females
– 44% of respondents who own a smartphone use Facebook as their primary communication app
– 20% of respondents who own a smartphone use BlackBerry Messenger (BBM)
– 20% of respondents who own a smartphone don’t use apps for communication
– 5% of respondents who own a smartphone use Twitter
– Males respondents from Vancouver are most likely to own iPhones, whereas females in Calgary are most likely to own a BlackBerry.
