Strategy Analytics’ latest SpecTRAX report shows the iPhone 4 16GB occupied more shelf space in Q1 2011 than any other device. The stats are based on 140 mobile operators worldwide of which 68 have the iPhone 4 in their portfolio. This number does not include sales, simply what carriers were putting on the floor. Strategy Analytics stated that “carriers are giving preference to style over substance” and that the iPhone 4 knocked RIM’s BlackBerry Bold 9700 out of the top spot. The 9700 drop from its number one position from Q3 and Q4 2010 to sixth place in Q1 2011 (for some reason the 9780 was not in the top 10 devices). The Nokia N8 and Samsung Galaxy S devices continued to increase in popularity.
