HTC Desire dummy phones start arriving at TELUS

The HTC Desire is a device that people have been wanting to get their hands on for a while. All we can say is that it’s coming soon, very soon. We’re hearing various launch dates and rumoured pricing but nothing solid yet. However you’ll be happy to know that the dummy units have started to arrive at TELUS locations which means the launch is quickly approaching.

(Thanks tipster!)

  1. I asked two Telus employees about the Desire today and they said an early August launch.

  8. HTC/Google doesn’t seem to care about Canada. While I am an HTC Magic user myself, I’m hardpressed to believe Canadians want an out-dated product like the Desire when south of the border has ridiculously powerful Android devices and the fact that we will get the iPhone 4 within a week.

PLEASE HTC. PLEASE GOOGLE. Give us Canadians (and GSM users) AMAZING Android devices that can actually keep up with the competition.

This phone is using TFT LCD, not Super OLED or whatever. It’s a basic LCD like the iPhone manufactured by a company named S-LCD, a joint effort between Sony and Samsung.

  14. @Radio2: I thought this was the best HTC GSM Android phone currently in market.

When I look at HTC’s worldwide site, that’s the impression I get.

How is the desire outdated when it was released in like march. The desire is the 3rd best android phone htc currently offers worldwide behind the droid incredible and evo 4g.

If your looking for the top smart phones in Canada, you have the option of choosing the htc desire, iphone4 or samsung galaxy vibrant in the coming weeks.

  19. I can’t wait! Hopefully it’s soon. At least the Desire will be upgraded to 2.2 unlike the Milestone.

  20. I’m a Rogers customer and I just need to decide whether to jump ship for the desire, or wait for the Samsung Captivate. I wish I could try both out first, and not have to wait til September to do it!

You don’t have to wait till Sept for Samsung Captivate.
Bell will soon release the Samsung Vibrant.
Both are renames of the Samsung Galaxy S.

  23. I’m really hoping that the Desire comes out before the 30th, so I can play with it before I go over to Asia for a month. Such an amazing phone, and sooo excited to be switching to Android after having a Blackberry for 3 years.

  24. Unfortunately, this is one of the best GSM Android devices out there because all the really great ones are CDMA and in the USA only.

I’ve come to the conclusion that HTC and Motorola are being boycotted by AT&T who is not apart of the OHA and thus despises Android. Then with that, adoption of Android on GSM networks worldwide is affected…especially here in Canada.

  26. I bet on August 4th, As I found it in small characters :

8 Available to new consumer activations on a 3 year service agreement until August 3, 2010.

So that means that everything’s gonna “change” for smartphones voice&data plans after that date.

  29. Is the Non Contract a unlocked phone? Because there will be late updates to Android 2.2 for locked phones as usual “This update will initially roll out to unlocked HTC Desire handsets. Operator specific versions of the update are undergoing testing and we expect to make them available in several weeks’ time.”

Dear, there is not better than HTC Desire at the moment and by the way it is an Android based phone. If you are getting a MAC then your whining makes sense
