Rogers to launch their mobile payment service “suretap” on October 15th

It was revealed yesterday that Rogers and CIBC are teaming up to launch “suretap.” This service, which allows Rogers customers to pay for items via their mobile device, will currently only work with NFC-enabled BlackBerry devices (9900 and 9360) and to those who download the “CIBC Mobile Payment Application.”

The internal doc we received stated that suretap will launch “later this month,” but today we’ve received word that the NFC SIM cards will be making their way to Rogers stores on Monday, October 15th. The doc states that “Today, Rogers introduces the Near-Field Communication (NFC) SIM card. This SIM is required for Rogers suretap, a new service that allows eligible customers to make mobile payments via their Smartphones, launching October 15th.”

I’ve embedded a video demo of suretap in action, seems pretty easy and users will be able to spend up to $50 on their CIBC Visa or MasterCard at one time.

(Thanks tipster!)
