Videotron launches gigabit internet service in Quebec

Good news for Québécois who love to stream: Videotron, the province’s main independent telecom has announced that starting July 13th, it will begin rolling out Hybrid Fibre Giga, which offers Internet download speeds of up to 940 Mbps for $149.95 per month.

The new tier will provide users with 50 Mbps upload speeds and unlimited usage. The pricing, download speed and usage matches the company’s main competitor, Bell, though the larger telecom promises 100 Mbps upload speed.

Hybrid Fibre Giga’s rollout will take place gradually, starting in Laval and continuing across Videotron’s current service area over the course of several months.

Currently, the highest speed the provider offers is 200 mbps with a 500GB monthly transfer capacity for $125.95 per month.
