Rogers’ Ignite Gigabit internet is finally making its way to the nation’s capital. The telecom announced today that it will be rolling out its fastest Internet speed across neighbourhoods in Ottawa starting on July 1st for $149.99 per month.
Ignite Gigabit Internet promises speeds of up to 1Gbps for downloads and 50 Mbps for uploads, which Rogers states will allow customers to download a 3GB data file in less than 30 seconds.
Rogers main competitor in fibre optic services, Bell, is already offering gigabit internet service in the area at the same price.
This rollout is part of a push by Rogers to get up to pace with Bell’s fibre network. The rollout began in Ontario in December, and over the next few months will expand further throughout the province, as well as in New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
Rogers hopes to deliver gigabit service to over four million homes by the end of 2016.
