Sony may finally announce the price of the PlayStation VR on March 15

PlayStation VR

With the exception of a name change and some marquee game announcements, Sony has kept details about its upcoming virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR, close to its chest.

That may soon change as the company announced this morning it will host a Game Developers Conference (GDC) keynote dedicated to the device.

Set to be held on March 15 in San Francisco, California, the keynote will include a presentation on the device and several hands-on demonstrations, according to the invite sent out to press.

Sony GDC Invite

Should Sony decide to announce a release date and price point for the PlayStation VR at GDC, the company will have picked a fitting venue to do so; it was at GDC 2015 that Sony first revealed an early prototype of the PlayStation VR, then called Project Morpheus.

Last week, the CEO of GameStop told Fox Business in a televised interview his company planned to start selling the PlayStation VR towards the second half of 2016. Previously, Sony said it was targeting an early 2016 launch, though with March quickly approaching, it’s more and more likely the company will miss that target.
