Google Japan, known for its quirky keyboards, is back with possibly the craziest one yet: the ‘Gboard Double-Sided Version,’ which, as the name implies, features keys on both sides.
The company revealed the wild Mobius strip-like keyboard on October 1st (10/1) in honour of the 101-key keyboard, though notably, the Gboard Double-Sided Version sports 208 keys in total.
Alongside the launch, Google Japan shared a blog post, website and YouTube video about the funky new keyboard, all of which are quite humorous. Here are a few choice quotes:
- “In the past, I would accidentally flip my keyboard over and have trouble using it, but with this keyboard, I don’t have to worry. It’s also perfect for back-end development.”
- “I thought it was the front, but it was the back.”
- “It hands comfortably on my wrist while I’m out and about. Perfect!”
The website has a little button that turns the whole thing into a Mobius strip and the video feels like a total fever dream.
While the Gboard Double-Sided Version isn’t for sale, Google Japan did open-source the device blueprints so anyone can try making one. You can find the blueprints here.
