Chromecast with Google TV gets security update, no Android 14 yet

You'll have to wait a bit longer to get robust smart home controls on your Google TV

Google previously confirmed that the Chromecast with Google TV from 2020 would get Android 14 after it launched with the new Google TV Streamer, but so far, it has only gotten security updates.

Android 14 for Google TV devices has a few key updates, but one of the most exciting additions is the ability to control and interact with your smart home right from your TV. This includes the ability to check cameras, control your smart lights and more. The update also adds AI background art for your screensaver, however, this is less exciting to me since Google already has some great real photo background options on the Chromecast with Google TV.

For the time being, Google and other retailers still sell the Chromecast with Google TV for around $70 (4K version) but the Google TV Streamer will replace it and costs $129.
