Canada approves watchOS 11’s new Sleep Apnea detection feature

Health Canada took a bit to approve it, but it should make its way to Canadians soon

During the Apple event, the Cupertino-based company announced a new sleep apnea detection feature on watchOS 11. The feature launched earlier this month in the U.S. and more than 150 other countries, but of course, Canada wasn’t on the list.

Health Canada must approve features like ECG, heart rate, and other health-tracking functionalities before they can be installed on our devices. But after a couple of weeks, it looks like Apple has received its approval, and the feature will be available to Canadians with a software update.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night’s sleep, you might have sleep apnea.”

As someone suffering from sleep apnea, this could be a pretty useful feature for me so I can monitor my sleep disorder.

This feature is available for the Apple Watch Series 10, Series 9, and Ultra 2. However, it’s unclear when the feature will hit Canadian devices.
