Google Maps working to crack down on fake reviews

The comapny is trying to stop companies from inflating their review scores, and taking the competition down

Google has started to take fake reviews more serious globally and now if a business is caught posting fabricated reviews Google will suspend its account. On the flip side, the search giant is also looking to stop customers from review bombing businesses as well.

When a company is caught faking reviews, Google will temporarily wipe all the reviews for 30 days from the account. It could also pause any new reviews, or even display a warning on the company’s page to let the public know its been posting false reviews.

If your business is caught with fake reviews Google will reach out via email to alert you before it takes action. You can read more about it here. You can also learn how to appeal it at that same link.

At MobileSyrup we also recently learned a bit about this with the potentially fake reviews left on the No Name store in Windsor ON. If Google detects that you haven’t actually been to a location it will also remove your reviews to stop review bombing.
