Meta Quest 3S will cost $399 CAD and come with the new Batman: Arkham game

The Quest 3 has also gotten a marked price cut

At Meta Connect 2024, the tech giant unveiled its latest VR headset, the Quest 3S.

With a starting price tag of $399.99 in Canada for the 128GB headset, the Quest 3S is a more affordable version of last year’s Quest 3, which was initially priced at $649.99 for the 128GB model. (That said, the 512GB Quest 3 has gotten a price cut and will now be sold at $679.99 (previously $849.99), while the previous entry-level 128GB model has been discontinued.)

Notably, the Quest 3S features the same high-resolution full-colour mixed reality features, speedy performance and ergonomic Touch Plus controllers as the Quest 3. What’s more, it features an average battery life of 2.5 hours compared to the base Quest 3’s 2.2.

Of course, with the lower price comes some differences. Mainly, the Quest 3S features lower-resolution displays (the same 1832 x 1920p per-eye resolution as the older Quest 2, versus the Quest 3’s 2064 × 2208p). It’s also slightly larger that its predecessor while lacking its depth sensor and having a narrower field of view.

Still, these are fairly reasonable compromises for a refresh that’s nearly half the cost. For full context, here’s the Canadian pricing of the two Quest 3S models vs. the one Quest 3 models:

  • Quest 3S (128GB) — $399
  • Quest 3S (256GB) — $549
  • Quest 3 (512GB) — $679

The Quest 3S will launch on October 15th, with pre-orders now live on Meta’s website.

Additionally, Meta confirmed that Batman: Arkham Shadows, the next entry in Warner Bros.’ acclaimed Batman: Arkham series that’s exclusively to Quest 3, will come bundled with all of these Quest 3 models. The game is developed by Camouflaj, the makers of the acclaimed Iron Man VR, and will launch on October 22nd.

Outside of the Quest 3S, Meta revealed new AR smartglasses called Orion. The company is calling Orion “the most advanced pair of AR glasses ever made” and says it will use an EMG wristband to offer seamless voice, eye gaze and hand tracking features. The glasses are currently only being tested among “Meta employees and select external audiences,” but the company says it plans to release the product for consumers “in the near future.”

Finally, as part of its long-running partnership with Ray-Ban, Meta also confirmed upcoming updates for its Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, including the ability to scan QR codes, video in Meta AI, integrations with Spotify and Amazon Music and more.
