YouTuber MrBeast and Amazon have been sued by five unnamed contestants in their Beast Games Prime Video series.
In the California lawsuit, the contestants filed 14 complaints against the production, including sexual harassment, unsafe sets, insufficient medical staff and failure to provide proper breaks for meals and resting (per California law).
Beast Games sees contestants take part in various stunts for a chance to win $5 million while living within a compound. The tryouts period of the series was filmed in Nevada in July, with the main production currently underway in Toronto. However, the lawsuit only cited issues with the Nevada leg of the production. Many of these reported issues, including allegations of a poorly managed and unsafe set, have also been covered in features from the likes of The New York Times and Rolling Stone.
“While participants knew upon signing the contract at the production’s inception that they were facing a potentially long and challenging competition, they allege getting a lot more than they bargained for,” attorneys for the anonymous “Beast Games” contestants said in a statement about the lawsuit. “Several contestants ending up hospitalized, while others reported suffering physical and mental complications while being subjected to chronic mistreatment, degradation and, for the female contestants, hostile working conditions.”
Variety notes that representatives for Amazon and MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) declined to comment. A Prime Video release date for Beast Games has not yet been specified.
