Netflix to stop updating app on some older iPhones and iPads

Those on iOS 16 devices are out of luck

Netflix will cease updates to its app on some older iPhones and iPads.

As first reported by 9t05Macthe streaming giant has been notifying subscribers on devices running iOS 16.

“We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later,” reads the Netflix alert on these iPhones and iPads. For context, this affects iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5 (2017) and 1st generation iPad Pro.

In a statement to The Verge, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed that the company won’t offer any new app updates on these devices unless it’s absolutely necessary. That said, those on the older iPhones and iPads will still be able to stream through the Netflix app for the foreseeable future.

In related news, iOS 18 is rolling out publicly to newer iPhone models today, September 16th. This follows the big Apple event from last week in which the company revealed the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4 and other new products and software. A full breakdown of all of those announcements can be found here.
