PlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebration seemingly confirms PS5 Pro

The company is rumoured to finally unveil the enhanced console this month

PlayStation 30th anniversary

If you can believe it, this year marks 30 years of the PlayStation brand. To celebrate, Sony published a blog post outlining some of its plans to ring in the big milestone, including digital God of War soundtracks, a free version of Gran Turismo 7 and free multiplayer weekends.

However, some eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the blog post might also tease the long-rumoured PS5 Pro. In a 30th anniversary image shared on the blog, silhouettes of various PlayStation systems can be seen, and among them, people pointed out a three-striped PlayStation that has never been released as an official console. Notably, this looks identical to a supposedly leaked sketch of the PS5 Pro from last week.

While Sony has yet to say anything publicly about a PS5 Pro, it would make sense, given both the litany of leaks and the existence of a PS4 Pro. Earlier this year, in particular, we heard about a slew of potential specs for the rumoured console, which is reportedly codenamed “Trinity.” These include a GPU mode that is “about 45 percent faster” and a CPU mode “around 10 percent faster” than the standard PS5 and increased ray-tracing support. Some games are also expected to get ‘PS5 Pro Enhanced’ branding and receive overall higher resolutions and frame rates.

As it stands, Sony is expected to launch the PS5 Pro this holiday season, which would line up with the anniversary celebrations. The company is also rumoured to officially unveil the system this month, possibly even in a PS5 Showcase (the last of which was held way back in May 2023). We’ll have more on the console if and when it gets revealed.

In other PlayStation news, the company just launched Astro Bot, one of its highest-rated games of all time that pays tribute to the platform’s entire three-decade history. Read our full review to find out why it’s so good.
