If you need to renew or get a new Canadian social insurance card (SIN), you’re in luck because the federal government has revamped the online application system to cut the wait time in half.
You can apply for a SIN or renew your old SIN card here, and once your application has been approved, you can view it in your My Service Canada account.

In the future, the Canadian government is working on bundling SIN applications with work permits so that people coming to Canada for a job will have their entry streamlined.
During the 2023-24 fiscal year, the government processed just under 2.9 million SIN card requests, so this reduced wait time should help speed up things significantly at that scale.
You can also apply for a SIN card in person at a Service Canada centre, or via the mail.
